Chilean mine ore conveyor

During the day most mining equipment is brown and dusty difficult to make dramatic. When industry is running smoothly, there's not a lot for the workers to do, so you sometimes have to make the shot. To keep things accurate, I spend time discussing work routines with the employees on site and together we figure out what kinds of action are reasonable.

In this shot, of a mine conveyor belt in Chile, we carefully planned and setup the image, then waited for the dramatic lighting to reach its peak. The worker in protective gear emphasizes the serious--and often dangerous--nature of the work.
